Background
Hoetoft, a Copenhagen-based natural wine distributor, brings low-intervention wines from Central and Eastern Europe to Denmark: delivered personally by Nicolai Hoetoft on his cargo bike. The brand needed a coherent identity that could bridge cultures while expressing authenticity, playfulness and sustainability. Acting as a strategic partner, we helped define Hoetoft’s core values and translate them into a visual language that feels both human and distinctive. The goal was to create a system that reflects Nicolai’s personal approach and stands out in the Danish wine scene through its Eastern-European roots and tactile charm.
Outcome
The identity merges nostalgic Eastern-European illustration traditions with restrained Scandinavian elegance. A hand-drawn logo and character illustration (portraying Nicolai himself) form the heart of the system, inspired by socialist-era cartoons and mid-century print aesthetics. The entire visual world remains black and white, underlining simplicity, sustainability and a sense of craft. The system extends from printed matter on Munken paper and letterpress details to packaging tape, tote bags, t-shirts and digital materials, creating a cohesive and scalable brand presence. The result is a warm, recognisable identity that elevates Hoetoft’s credibility and positions the brand within an international natural wine context.
